Jonathan graduated with honors from Harvard University and from the University of Michigan Law School. He has practiced law since 1982. Before joining the firm, he spent five years as in-house counsel with U.S. Bank's trust department. His practice emphasizes estate planning and administration for taxable and nontaxable estates, trust administration, trust and estate disputes, the establishment of charitable organizations, and disability planning.
Jonathan is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a past chair of both the Oregon State Bar's Estate Planning & Administration Section and the Trust Committee of the Oregon Bankers Association, and a member of the Estate Planning Council of Portland and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He has also been selected for inclusion in Oregon Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America. Jonathan serves as editor of the Oregon Bar's probate manual. He has written more than two dozen articles and book chapters for other lawyers on trust and estate topics, and he also helped draft most of the trust statutes enacted in Oregon during the past 15 years.
